Delphi: Day 6

Today we went to go see the ancient ruins of Delphi and the Delphi museum. My favorite part of the Delphi museum was the Charioteer from the Classical era. This piece depicts the winner of a chariot race at the Pythian games. I like this piece because it amazes me how there were so many pieces missing, yet they knew were they went to put it back together in the museum. I also love how it was a huge transition from the difference of the Archaic period of more abstract sculptures into more realistic sculptures with emotions. We had a guided tour of the Delphi sanctuary and got to see the Temple of Apollo and the Delphi theater. The stadium was located way at the top, but we didn't make it up that far. My favorite part was the theater because it had the same feel as the Colosseum and I could almost feel the excitement in the air of the shows that used to happen there. Also, from the theater the view was beautiful. It was an early morning, and after our tour in Delphi we were off to Athens. We stopped at a rest stop for some lunch and got to our hotel around dinner time. We were all very anxious to eat and shop a little bit, so we took the metro a stop down and all had mousaka at a restaurant. I enjoyed it for a little bit, but after I had too much it became too rich for me. After dinner we had time to do some shopping (my favorite) for a while and eventually headed back to the hotel.
